In September thee of our instructors, Matt, Ross, & Kelly, paid a visit to our friends training at Zwaard & Steen in the Netherlands. We’ve been lucky enough to have had Arto Fama and Michel Rensen from Zwaard & Steen teaching at our Bladeworks event, accompanied by some of the other wonderful folk who train there. It’s been an absolute pleasure having them around at our Bladeworks event the past two years, so we jumped at the chance to get across to the Netherlands and pay them a visit.
As well as a lot of seeing beautiful sights around Utrecht, Gouda, and Dordrecht, and generally enjoying hanging out with the wonderful folk from Zwaard & Steen, we also managed to get a little fencing in! In addition to a little freeplay whilst workshops were going on, and a great fechtschule at the end of the day, Matt taught a longsword workshop on applied Ansetzen/Absetzen from the early Liechtenauer sources, whilst Kelly and Ross taught a workshop on non-lethal techniques from Lecküchner’s messer texts.
It was a great trip, and we’re already looking forward to crossing paths with the folk from Zwaard + Steen again!
